Jodi Levitz began her viola studies at age six, and at the age of twelve was accepted into the Juilliard School, Pre-College Division as a scholarship student of Margaret Pardee. In 1983 she graduated from Juilliard (studies with Margaret Pardee, Paul Doktor, and William Lincer) with Bachelor and Master of Musical Arts degrees. While still a student at Juilliard, she won first place in several competitions, including the D'Angelo competition and the Hudson Valley Young Artists Competition.

Upon her graduation in 1983, Ms. Levitz was invited to assume the post of Principal Viola and Soloist with the Italian chamber group I Solisti Veneti. She also formed the Chicago String Trio (1984 to 1990) and Duo Rolla with the principal players of Solisti Veneti. In the years that followed, she performed as soloist with I Solisti Veneti in many of the worlds most important halls (The Tonehalle of Zurich, the Mozarteum of  Salzburg,  Salle Pleyel of Paris, Garnier of Monaco, Orchestra Hall, La Scala  in Milan, the Fenice in Venice,  S. Carlo in Naples, etc.) and festivals (Salzburg, Jerusalem, BesanÁon, Madiera, Montreux, City of Paris, Istanbul, City of London).

Her recordings include Rolla Concerti, Divertimenti, Sinfonia, (soloist with  I Solisti Veneti ERATO), Giuliani  Concerto per viola e due mandolini (ERATO I Solisti Veneti), Verklärte Nacht sextett, A. Schoenberg (ERATO, sextett of  Solisti Veneti), Mendelssohn piano quartets Op. 1, 2 and 3 and Schubert Adagio and Rondo D 487 (CONCERTO, Chicago String Trio and Carlo Levi Minzi, piano) and Hummel Sonata per viola e pianoforte (DYNAMIC,  S. Fiuzzi fortepiano.

Ms. Levitz presently is Principal Solo Violist of the Chamber Orchestra of Mantova and the Orchestra Cittý di Ferrara. She also collaborates frequently as guest principal viola with the National RAI Orchestra, the Orchestra Toscanini of Parma, and the Chamber Orchestra of Tuscany.

As the violist of Duo Rolla (with violinist Bettina Mussumeli), Miss Levitz has premiered numerous duos of Alessandro Rolla throughout Europe.

Ms. Levitz  is the viola instructor of Progetto Orchestra of the Amici della Musica di Vicenza ( an year round orchestral formation course headed by Leon Spirer, retired concertmaster of the  Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), and performance classes at Istituzioni Musicale Villa Contarini (Padova), Ars Musica (Imola), and is the viola teacher at Oberlin a Casalmaggiore, a summer music festival run by Oberlin Conservatory. She has given master classes at Oberlin College and Trinity University.
